Our History
Founded in the 1978 by Geoffrey Evans and joined by Stephen Crawley in the 1988, Evans & Crawley has built a long-standing reputation for specialist residential developments, heritage projects, and work involving churches and historic buildings.
In 2006, James Crawley joined the practice, adding expertise in architectural design, planning, and development consultancy.
Today, the firm serves clients across Hertfordshire and throughout the UK, with much of its work coming from recommendations and repeat clients - a testament to its commitment to quality and personal service.

Stephen Crawley
James brings over 20 years of experience in planning and development consultancy, with particular expertise in building pathology, planning and building regulations. He provides practical, strategic advice throughout the design and development process, helping clients navigate complex requirements and find effective solutions. His experience includes assessing buildings, identifying structural and construction issues, and advising on appropriate repair, maintenance and alteration. He works across residential, commercial and historic properties, bringing a strong understanding of both the technical and practical considerations involved in successful development.
With decades of experience as a Chartered Surveyor, Stephen brings extensive technical knowledge and practical expertise to every project. He specialises in building construction, property and regulatory compliance, providing clear advice throughout the design and development process. His experience includes assessing buildings, identifying construction issues, and advising on repair, maintenance and alteration across residential, commercial and historic properties. His expertise ensures projects are practical, technically sound and carefully considered.
